TRIBAL / BOHO BABIN' >

TRIBAL/BOHO/HIPPIE OOTD>

It's hard to go wrong with vibrant prints, warm tones and rich accessories, aka tribal/boho babin' (FYI that's straight from the SISJ dictionary!).

I love the urban cut and abstract print of this Mika & Gala playsuit. The tribal/ethnic trend which resurfaces each fashion calendar can be styled at random! The more colour and the crazier the accessories are, the better. I love this effortless style for casual day wear, but also teamed with a cute pair of wedges for a balmy summer night out.

MY CHERUB CHEEKS >

CHERUB CHEEKS > SISJ BEAUTY TIP!

PARABEN FREE / NOT TESTED ON ANIMALS

I am constantly asked what blush I use and what gives me my 'glowing finish'. Well here is the answer! I use the Inglot AMC liquid face blush as a highlighter on top of my Boys Don't Cry powder blush by Nars. I apply the liquid blush with a brush or sponge, gently blending it along the top of my cheekbone (post bronzer/powder blush). This is truly make-up magic and will leave your skin glowing and radiant throughout the day - I cannot recommend this product highly enough.

It retails at a very reasonable $26, online and in-stores (CBD, Chadstone & Southland).

SUMMER COLOUR BLOCKING & POPPING >

SUMMER COLOUR BLOCKING & POPPING >

It's poppin' purple and oh-la-la orange for me today! To my fellow Melbournians, don't let today's typical weather throw you - it will be a stinking hot summer before you know it! I am always keen to get in early when it comes to bathers and maxi dresses for summer. Beat the crowds in early December and avoid that awkward moment at the beach when the girl two towels down is wearing the same bathers as you! There are so many beautiful floral, Aztec and tie-dye patterns available in-store at the moment. Go Crazy - colour, print, big glasses and hats!

P & O COLOUR RULES & STYLING:

Orange and purple are analogous colours, aka close by one another on the colour wheel. This colour combo always makes for a chic and fresh outfit. P & O can be styled so many ways, whether it's colour blocked or a print, like my Mink Pink bathers above. If you do decide to colour block it's important to remember the following guidelines > to complete a fab CB'd outfit; combine two or three colours that complement or contrast rather than match each other. The colours should be solid and vivid to make the boldest statement. *WHAT ARE VIVID COLOURS? Strikingly bright, strong and intense colours - for example: fuchsia, magenta & lime*.

COLOUR HUB WRAP-UP!

HUB-KNUBBING HIT > A big thank you to the fabulous team at the Highpoint Spring Racing Colour Hub last Friday night, I had a wonderful evening!

It was great to meet fashion stylist Margaret Kernich (aka Miss Bossy Boots!) and discuss all this season's trends as well as race day etiquette. As I am a traditionalist at heart so the fashions of Melbourne Cup Day excite me the most! A tailored silhouette dress or skirt and blazer, gloves and a hat are a must for me. While I do love the elegance of Cup Day, you can't help but love the fun fashion and freedom of Oaks Day! For me Oaks Day is the green light to go crazy with colour, pattern, open toe shoes and a crowd stopping head piece. There are some stunning floral and vibrant dresses/skirts available at Alannah Hill, Kookai & Rodeo Show - all of which you can find at Highpoint Shopping Centre.

The highlight of the evening though was definitely meeting the uber talented milliner, Penelope D'Alton. I was photographed by the lovely Timothy Burgess in two of her designs (above & below). All Penelope's designs are custom made in Melbourne using the finest materials. I absolutely fell in LOVE with the yellow head piece (I literally tried it on and off 4 times!). We had a great chat about millinery trends for this season as well as discussing headwear etiquette - for example, which side to position the head piece on, how far to dip it down/across the face and obviously what shape and type of hat suits each individual face shape.

Thank you again to the Highpoint Colour Hub styling team for having me, it was a informative and fun session! See you on the track! SISJ x

D O C K E D D I V A E X P O S E D >

D O C K E D  D I V A !

We are all friends here so I will admit straight away that this is a slightly edited snapshot of my dressing table! While my products and my face are real (for some reason I have Judge Judy in my head!?), the organised style in which you find there here is certainly not! >

SISJ CONFESSION: I am convinced all women suffer the same condition that I do when it comes to our stuff. I call this condition JEKYLL & HYDE! In other words, I am highly organised (verging on OCD) in some areas of my life, but in others I am a complete mess! To combat this I have enlisted the help of the lovely ladies at The Makeup Box Shop to whip me into shape! Of course what is a dressing table without a self-indulgent personalised candle from Bombardier Designs as well??!! It smells divine and hey, I love what I do!

THIS CONFESSION IS OVER & OUT!

COLOUR HUB-KNUBBING FOR SPRING RACING >

This Friday I am heading to Highpoint Shopping Centre to experience a VIP style consultation with leading Melbourne stylists, MUA's, milliners and session stylists. We will be workshopping the latest expert tips and trends in preparation for this year's Spring Racing carnival. I am PUMPED to say the least!

HERE IS THE G-O >

P.S these one-on-one session are open to the public too!

The Spring Racing Colour Hub style journey will begin with stylist’s Franco Schifilliti and Margaret Kernich (aka Miss Bossy Boots!). They will combine their vast experience in high-fashion and editorial styling to provide colour assessments, layering and theme inspiration. Next, we move onto the make-up team who will be made up of Kim Tavares, Trish Sousa and Abe Zakhem. This gun team specialise in editorial shoots, runway shows and TV make-up. Here we will talk all things beauty - the tan, nails, skincare and of course, colour! (Ahh, Oaks Day come at me!). We will then be treated to guru hair stylist, Xeneb Allen, to talk colour, cuts and styles for the track. After this styling overload we will finally be whisked away to spend some time with the uber talented milliner, Penelope D’ Alton. This session will include her hottest tips and trends, material and ways-to-wear, for this year's racing season.

SO, IN SUMMARY... (In the overused words of Ms Zoe) > AHH-MAAAAZING! I look forward to sharing all the trackside goss and styling tips with you - stay tuned!

RENT, TRY, BUY - DESIGNER STYLE >

E.L.L.E.R.Y LAND > my dress, as seen on Miranda Kerr (or whichever way you look at it!)

I have recently discovered Style Carousel through a good friend of mine here in Melbourne. Style Carousel is an online boutique offering beautiful pieces from Australia's best designers, including: Ellery, Camilla and Marc & Life With Bird. They offer an amazing service where you can either rent or buy the item you love. As much as we all love these designers, being able to afford their designs for a season of events just isn't possible (yet - I am working backwards from my goals!).

This service is great for last minute outfits and obviously caters for those who are well organised, with a booking service. All items are sent via express post/courier and a return bag is provided. You don't even need to worry about dry cleaning - just another amazing feature of the rental service with Style Carousel. With Spring Racing well and truly upon us, this is the ideal way to shop and dress to impress!

THE DIARY OF A DESIGNER >

.THE DIARY OF A DESIGNER.
A September journey in NEW YORK CITY with Australian Fashion Designer, Natalie Chapman
Hello Manhattan! On the 22nd of August one of my fave Aussie fashion designers, Natalie Chapman, landed in The Big Apple adorned with bags, her new collection and a BIG vision! After the jet lag and girlie excitement wore off, it was time to live and breathe like a real New Yorker! After some sight seeing and sun it was time to plan and prep for Fashion Week and of course, "Silhouette".

NATALIE CHAPMAN “Silhouette” Manhattan photo shoot begins! >
So I will paint a written picture for you... Nat and her team of eight pros had only four hours to capture her entire collection, in three major locations in Manhattan!!! Now, for those of you who have been to NYC (or watch SVU!), you would understand just how demanding and impressive that is. With a vision to capture REAL NYC moments, the team took on the famous New York Subway, Times Square and of course the Lincoln Centre. I have no doubt that their hectic schedule contributed to successfully achieving the objective of the shoot itself! After all, dont all New Yorkers operate on the mentality of "I needed this yesterday"?! I love that these images stand still in time - against NYC time that is!

I want to say a HUGE CONGRATS to Natalie on her amazing achievements and her new collection. I look forward to seeing you at the GENESIS EVENT in Sydney this November, and of course wearing some of your new collection ;)

SISJ SPRING BEAUTY & LIFE MAKEOVER >

SPRING BEAUTY MAKEOVER >
(make that beauty & life!)

If this was an interview and you asked me to describe myself in three words (or letters!), it would be O.C.D ! I am super organised and love a good deadline. However, when it comes to my most prized possessions, my make-up, I am a complete and utter mess! What makes this even more bazaar is I put this magic on my face every single morning - you would think by now I had a system down-pat, but no.

Thank baby cheeses I discovered these amazing storage solutions by The Makeup Box Shop. In the last week I have done a complete throw out of all my old and un-used make-up - I literally filled a 20L tub! It must be a chick thing, but the overwhelming feeling of relief after a big cleanout is the best. I have no doubt that from now on my morning routine will be far less stressful - not to mention that all brushed will be located in record time!
I cannot recommend these products highly enough. Jump onto their website and purchase one or more immediately!

BELOW: my favourite brush and lipstick box > finally I have a system ensuring I can create my Rachel Taylor brows every morning AND get a coffee on the way to work! As my extremely patronising and ironic husband always says... "systems baby, systems"... Hmmm. Maybe he was right?!

SOME BLEACH & A BLOW >

CHANNELLING SIENNA WITH A BLOWAVE @ ROKK EBONY

Pretty happy with my lovely blowave by Giovanni at Rokk Ebony, South Melbourne. After waving this super cute pic of SISJ hair icon, Sienna Miller, in his face - he produced this! I think me and my bestie have a cowlick in the same place too! Woo! Ahhh, life is better with a tan and a blow ;)

Beautiful. Dangerous. Rare. Me. >

SISJ SMELLS LIKE >
'Florabotanica' by BALENCIAGA

SCENT NOTES: Carnation, Wild Mint, Turkish Rose Essence, Hemp Leaves, Vetiver Roots, White Amber / SCENT STYLE: Beautiful. Dangerous. Rare (all words I would totally use to describe myself!) >

STOP WHAT YOU ARE DOING - I have a new scent to add to my collection! Ignoring the celebrity 'face' of the product of course... Kristen Stewart (mean but true, sorry Twihard lovers!). I am normally Ms Predictable when it comes to my perfume, however, I came across this incredible scent this week and fell IN LOVE!

As described by Sephora: Florabotanica evokes ambivalent bewitching beauty. Velvety and thorny, flirting with hemp and vetiver roots. The scent is flowery, developed on a rose note with a narcotic hemp twist. The wearer is beautiful but dangerous, like some rare botanical species. Florabotanica is the fragrance of the Balenciaga botanic garden. It instils the brand with modernity and colours. While Balenciaga Paris paid tribute to the genius of Cristobal, this scent celebrates Nicolas’s futuristic perspective. The various facets of Nicolas’s inspiration are reflected in the bottle and outer box. The rich and surprising mix match of architectural lines, vivid colours, and venomous floral prints recurrent in Balenciaga’s fashion are translated into Florabotanica’s unique packaging.

I urge you all to have a sniff next time you are in David Jones! SISJ x
