HOW TO GET BEACH BABE HAIR >

Let's face it, the 'effortless' beach babe hair still takes a little effort to achieve! While this is an unstructured and relaxed style, it's all about technique and product prep. Below I have listed some techniques and products that I recommend to achieve this look >

TECHNIQUE ONE > S A L T / W A X  S P R A Y

Salt or wax spray are fantastic for adding volume, texture and removing any frizz. In my experience you can use these products on dry or damp hair to achieve the beach hair/waves look. Personally though I like to dry-off my hair until it's almost completely dry and then spray in the wax or salt spray. I then use my hands to comb this through in a scrunching technique (almost rubbing your fingers/hands together). Once you've applied the product you can do a cool dry over the top just using your fingers to brush through your hair. In a way you are creating very, very mild dreadlocks, so avoid hair brushes and combs! I then finish this look off with some light hair spray > PRODUCT TIP: TONI & GUY SEA SALT TEXTURISING SPRAY

TECHNIQUE TWO > B U N  /  P L A I T  /  B A C K  C O M B

I am lucky when it comes to styling the beach hair/wave look as I naturally have a wave. However, if I do want a slightly bigger wave or an ultra-messy look, there are a few ways to achieve this. I would still suggest on adding a salt spray or wax (there are also beach hair sprays which are basically the same thing) before putting your hair up in a messy bun, plait or back combing. Again, I would wait until your hair is almost dry and you've added your desired product before you style. Once you have styled your hair into a messy bun or plait, dry-off on the cool setting and leave it to set while you get ready. You could leave this in overnight, however, I find when you open the bun the following day you will have a big kink where the tie meets the hair on the top of your head. The plait however can definitely be left in. For a big beach wave look (like the image above on the left) I would suggest the fat plait technique. Finally, back comb, back comb, back comb! This is my answer to anything and everything! BIGGER IS BETTER when it comes to hair!

TECHNIQUE THREE > C U R L I N G  I R O N  /  G H D

This technique is probably more suited for those with less wave or curl to their hair. As you can see in the image below, I don't need to use any irons or tongs for the basic/messy beach look. However, if I did want a structured wave finished off with a bit of salt spray mess, this would be the technique I use. I still suggest to dry off your hair on a medium heat with the prep product already in your hair - this could also be oil, volumising serum/mousse. Without brushing or combing your hair and once it is completely dry, then you can use your curling iron or GHD to style. Once you have finished styling add some salt or wax spray vigorously to your hair. A great technique is also to dip your head upside-down and shake it around. Once you flip it up give it a few scrunches with your fingers and hands. Complete this look with some light hair spray for hold.
